Therapy and counselling for adults

In order to you help you, I’ll be drawing on all I’ve learnt from over 30 years of wide-ranging experience across a broad range of social care sectors.

This experience, alongside the truly effective, integrated approach of human givens, will allow me to help you make the changes and reach the goals you’ve set for yourself in therapy.

My approach to working with adults

In my therapeutic practice I draw from the most effective components of cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal therapy, solution-focused approaches, motivational interviewing, guided relaxation and hypnotherapy.

Human givens therapy for adults can involve:

  • Helping you to challenge and change unhelpful thinking styles
  • Sharing with you the latest neuroscientific findings around how the brain actually works
  • Helping you to take a different perspective on your situation through the use of reframing
  • Metaphors and storytelling
  • Encouraging problem solving, and providing an opportunity to practise between sessions
  • Helping you to recognise times in your life when you weren’t experiencing problems – what was different about those times and how you can build on the skills and resources you already have
  • Teaching an array of skills such as social skills, communication skills, assertiveness and assertiveness skills and skills to manage anger
  • Rehearsing those new skills and making desired changes successfully through guided imagery
  • Learning how to relax

The therapy we undertake will be tailored specifically around you and your needs.

Our work together will be practical, forward focusing and concentrated on the mastery of skills and understandings that you can use now and in the future to move on in your life, rather than dwelling on what went wrong in the past.

This is true even if you’ve suffered horrific traumatising events, as I’m able to help you heal you quickly and effectively using the Rewind technique – and evidence-based method for de-traumatising people.

Rather than being reliant on one model of therapy, the human givens therapeutic approach allows me to be fluid and flexible in my work. I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs, circumstances and goals.
